About Porsche Diesel Standard 218
In 1956, Porsche-Diesel Motorenbau GmbH (under Mannesmann’s control) introduced the Porsche Diesel Standard 218, an evolution of the earlier Standard 208. The 218 featured:
- Two-cylinder, air-cooled diesel engine (producing around 25 hp)
- Four-speed transmission (with optional reduction gears)
- Efficient fuel consumption
- Durability and simple maintenance, making it ideal for small farms
The Porsche Diesel 218 was widely used in Europe, particularly in Germany, where it became known for its reliability, smooth operation, and fuel efficiency.
